The preserve’s story began in 1936 when Perry bought a piece of land for 200 acres near downtown Denver. She wanted a peaceful farm outside of the busy city. She rode her horse from downtown Denver to the site where she planned to build her dream home. The property offered panoramic mountain views and wetland wildlife. Despite the small size of the park, the natural beauty of the area makes it well worth the trip.

Perry and her family donated the land to the city. In addition to the donation, the community has also made many improvements to the property. By placing a conservation easement on the property, the town is preserving a piece of land that is considered a hidden gem in Arapahoe County.
